Standard 12 months required - Visitor Visa (subclass 600) Tourist (for Parent)

Quick qst re Visitor visa (subclass 600) tourist stream duration if anyone can advise.

 

Wish to apply for parent (mother only) to come visit, will be her first time to Australia. I am not PR or Citizen (I am on 457 for 1 year).

 

Can we apply for the visa as 12 months (it says 3m, 6m, 12m). Are there different considerations for a 12m visa to a 3m visa e.g. Will my mother need health cover if we apply for 12 months? She is not covered by Reciprocal Health cover.

 

I assume the 12 months here is eligible for single stay upto 12 months in total?

 

The last time we applied via an agent, they advised us to apply ONLY for 3 months, we got the visa but mother couldn't travel due to personal commitments That visa expired. This time I am applying independently (the agent cost was double the visa cost!) and wondering if I can apply for standard 12 months but want to avoid delays of processing due to missing health cover plan.

I'm not sure if you've looked at this page but if you put the details in, then all the information you need is there.

 

ETA It does say that the sponsor needs to either a citizen or PR and you aren't either so it may be better for your mum to get an evisitor visa, assuming she's eligible.
